New Space

I cleaned up and rearranged my workspace today (which is really just one side of my bedroom) and it feels so much better.  It is amazing how just moving a few things around can make a room feel so much bigger. I am really excited to share some of the jewelry I have been making but it is not quite ready yet.  For now I will just show a pictures of my 'studio'.

Almost a month left until my show. Where has the summer gone? I feel like I have been away every weekend since I have been back in Texas. I am really looking forward to being home this weekend and getting a lot of work done.

My workspace is such a mess right now!

Solange Azagury-Partridge - Fine Jewelry

Solange Azagury-Partridge defines herself on her website as a costume-fine jeweler.  I chose her as an example of Fine Jewelry because although it looks a bit costume-ish it is clearly made with high-end expensive materials. She has a lot of work on her website.  The attention to detail in her work is amazing. I think the pieces I chose to show here are more of her fine jewelry rather than costume jewelry.

Luiza Grandchamp - Art Jewelry

I chose Luiza Grandchamp as my example of Art Jewelry because each piece she makes is unique and hand-crafted.  With each collection she tries to communicate a specific idea.  This is what she wrote about theses rings:
"My rings are a spiritual representation of home or church. Home is not just a habitat or building but a sacred place that everyone wants and needs. Home is a place where one lives with their family in their community. I use architectural shapes and lines for the structure and the shape of the stones to create roofs and windows to bring the ring to life."
The rings are made of sterling silver, gold and precious stones.  It is hard to find most of her work online because she is retired.  You almost have to own one of her pieces to be able to see her work.  She is a terrific Art Jewelry Artist.  She also did a collection with crocheted sliver that was beautiful.  She is the reason I got into jewelry.

Angela Fung- Studio Production

I first saw Angela Fung's work when I was taking a jewelry class in high school.  I was drawn to it because I had never seen jewelry that incorporated movement like that before. It is a fun idea that gives the wearer something to play with while she is wearing the piece.
Her jewelry is studio production because it is produced in limited quantities.  She uses high quality materials like stainless steel, gold rivets and precious stones.
I chose some of her rings to show here because I think they are the most interesting and show off her style. Her use of rivets and the strong geometric shapes.
